Ushers / Welcome Ministers
Mission Statement: A Christian Community must be a welcoming community. The Ministry of Hospitality has a goal of creating a welcoming environment at Mass, to assist with certain tasks in support of the Mass, to contribute to a reverent tone for the Liturgy, and to assist with questions and special needs. In so doing, ushers help make Mass a more reverent, meaningful, and prayerful experience through hospitality. Jesus taught hospitality in Luke 10:30-37; Paul’s letter to the Romans in 15:7 instructs: “Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you”, and Paul’s letter to the Hebrews 13:2: “Do not neglect to show hospitality, for by that means some have entertained angels without knowing it”, exhorts us to show hospitality. Through their welcome and Christ-like attitude and actions, ushers encourage the assembly to see and experience the love of Christ.
Description: Led by Douglas Hunt, the Ushers’ overall most important function is creating a welcoming environment for the people as they arrive and celebrate in the Mass. They are responsible for helping those with physical limitations find seating; they greet and welcome visitors and new parishioners, as well as pass out bulletins and other information after Mass. Ushers take up the collection, and coordinate the Presentation of the Gifts during the offertory. They also answer questions and assist as needed.
Meeting Dates/Location: Ushering involves a great deal of on-the-job training and reflection. They meet in small groups every weekend in support of each Mass: Saturdays at 5 PM & 6:30 PM, Sundays at 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 5:30 PM.
